Introduction

The Design Library is a built-in gallery of your saved die designs. Instead of managing individual files, save a design with a name and details, then browse, search, and reload it any time — all inside the DCT.

Open it from File → Design Library (⇧⌘L on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+L on Windows).

Saving a Design

Choose File → Save to Library (⌥⌘S / Ctrl+Alt+S) to add the current design to the library. Along with a name, you can record:

• Customer — who the design is for
• Tags — comma-separated workflow labels of your choosing

The nib designation (e.g., R11) is captured automatically from Nib Assist, so you never have to type it — and it stays accurate if you later reload and re-save the design.

Browsing, Searching & Grouping

Search matches every word you type across name, customer, designation, tags, and sizes — so searching acme r11 finds Acme's R11 designs. Use Group by to organize the list by Customer or Designation; designs without a value collect in an Unassigned group.

From the library you can load a design, edit its details, or delete it (deletion asks for confirmation first).

Where Your Designs Are Stored

Library designs are stored in your browser, on your device. Each browser on each device has its own separate library — designs do not sync between devices or browsers. Clearing your browser's site data will delete the library, so we recommend keeping a backup (see below).

Safari note: Safari can clear a website's stored data after 7 days without a visit. Adding DCT to your Home Screen or Dock protects the library from this — see Adding DCT to Your Device.

Backing Up: Export & Import (.dctlib)

The Design Library can export your entire library as a single .dctlib file — your durable backup. To restore or transfer, open the file with File → Open (it recognizes .dctlib automatically) or import it from the library panel.

Importing merges by design: designs you don't already have are added, and where a design exists in both places the newest version wins — so importing an older backup will never overwrite your recent edits.

We recommend exporting a .dctlib backup periodically, especially before clearing browser data or moving to a new computer.

Design Library on iPhone, iPad & Mac

The native DCT app for iPhone, iPad & Mac has its own Design Library that syncs privately across your Apple devices via iCloud. The web and app libraries are separate, but they speak the same language: use .dctlib export/import to move designs between them.
